At Harris Horology we have the ability to repair both clocks and watches - portable carriage clocks bring these two separate schools of practise together into one beautiful object. Our fine technical ability means no platform escapement is too small or too complex, and our fully equipped studio can tackle any kind of repair. From a routine service all the way up to a complete restoration, we draw on our museum experience and practice to keep as much character and charm as possible while ensuring all clocks are returned working reliably as they should.
A large percentage of our work is on heirloom items - those inherited from an earlier generation, and we work hard to bring them back to life while keeping the object's soul intact. No visual changes or no over-polished cases, just the clock working as it used to decades ago. Read examples of our clock repairs on our blog here.
We also have the skills and expertise to take on any restoration work required - carriage clocks often have cracked or damaged glass or problems with their delicate enamel dials. These special bevelled glasses need to be hand-cut and polished to size to ensure a perfect fit - this means both that the clock movement is protected from dust and dirt, as well as bringing back the original beauty of the object.
Enamel dials can be restored and repaired; we work with modern cold enamels to minimise any risk of further damage. These are hand-mixed with pigments to ensure perfect colour matching, and any dark-stained cracks can be carefully bleached ad lightened to improve the look without removing the charm and character.
We are experienced working with clocks from all ages and any complexity, from a 20th-century timepiece to a complicated grande sonnerie get in touch with us as repair is almost always possible.

Reviews
Don’t just take our word for it, trust our fantastic clients, these quotes are taken from our google reviews:
“I found James after looking for ages for someone to service my watches. I’d resolved to never visit a high street jewellers again following a disaster with one of my pieces. I visited James who instilled great confidence from the start. So far he’s serviced a Seamaster and a Rolex Submariner and both are running fantastically. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Harris Horology.”
“Excellent and efficient customer service combined with high skill, knowledge and quality finish. I had a couple of bad experiences with high street watch repair specialists, who told me the vintage watches couldn’t be repaired after sending them away to their specialist repair centre and having to chase for updates. James made it look so easy.”
“James went above and beyond when dealing with my request. Unfortunately another shop had failed to do what I had asked and didn’t fix the issue even though they charged me for it.
Couldn’t recommend Harris Horology enough. Extremely professional, exceptionally knowledgeable and the work speaks for itself.
My dad was over the moon to see my grandads watch finally up and running again and that wouldn’t be possible without James. Thank you”
“Harris Horology provides the best watch repair and customer service! During Lockdown my beloved father’s Garrard watch died on me. Garrard’s no longer offer watch repair and last time they were utterly shameful: over months I had to return it 3 times as they did not repair it properly. It took me a while to find and trust a watch repairer.
James of Harris Horology was brilliant: clearly an expert in his field, fixed the watch and provided fab customer service including unexpectedly presented the watch in watch case.”
